14th Sept 24 Vs Gilfach Goch RFC*

Cowbridge RFC vs. Gilfach Goch RFC*

*A Tribute to Legends*

Before diving into the comedic capers of the weekend’s match, a heartfelt thank you to Rob Vaughan and Richard Killick. For over 30 years, these legends have been the scribes of Cowbridge RFC, capturing every tackle, try, and tea spill with flair. Diolch RV/RK

*New Beginnings at the Fred Dunn*

The eagerly anticipated unveiling of our new gym, spectators walkway, and scoreboard added a touch of glamour to the Fred Dunn. Thank you to all local businesses and members involved in making these upgrades possible.

*Homegrown Heroes*

A whopping 16 of the 20 players selected hailed from Cowbridge Minis, Juniors, and Youth sections, proving that our local talent pipeline is as reliable as a referee’s whistle… most of the time.

*First Half Antics*

The match kicked off with Dexter Hart darting over the line, scoring the first try and nearly outrunning his own shadow. Gilfach quickly retaliated with a try of their own, reminding Dexter that shadows are indeed faster.

Charlie Locke then danced around defenders like he was avoiding chores at home, putting Cowbridge back in the lead. Gilfach’s penalty brought them closer, but not close enough to hear Cowbridge’s game plan (which, admittedly, was mostly “run faster”).

Another try for Gilfach had the scoreboard flashing like a disco ball, but Dexter Hart doubled down with his second try, sending Cowbridge into halftime with a narrow lead of 20-18.

*Second Half Shenanigans*

Gilfach kicked off the second half with a try, briefly equaling the scores. Not to be outdone, Max Lucas charged through like a bull in a china shop, leaving a trail of confused defenders and broken teacups in his wake.

Rhydian Williams then decided it was his time to shine with not one, but two tries. The crowd started chanting for a hat trick, and Rhydian, never one to disappoint, delivered with style. Somewhere, a hat in the stands was sheepishly removed in tribute.

Ioan Lewis, cool as a cucumber in a snowstorm, kicked 11 points from the tee, proving that not all heroes wear capes—some prefer rugby boots.

Despite Gilfach’s best efforts, the final whistle blew with Cowbridge triumphant at 46-27.

*Man of the Match*

In a twist, Ioan Lewis was named Man of the Match, proving that while scoring tries is great, making no look out the back passes and keeping the scoreboard ticking is the real MVP move!

*League Standing and Upcoming Fixtures*

Cowbridge now sit comfortably in 2nd place in the league table, poised like a cat ready to pounce.

Next up, an away fixture against Ynysybwl on Saturday, 21st September, and their next home game is against Cardiff Quins on Saturday, 12th October. Mark your calendars, bring your hats, and prepare for more rugby revelry!
