Todays weather, complete opposite of 7 days ago, namely autumnally cold and wet. Played on an artificial surface, with captain for the day Craig Boxall standing in for the absent Adam Dix. Llanishen centre scores a try after 10 minutes, converted by full back 7-0. In the 20th minute a successfully kicked penalty from Rhyddian Morris brings Cowbridge on to the scoreboard for 7-3. Shortly after a run in by Llanishen No 7 converted by 15 for 14-3. On the 25th minute a score for the Bridge with Evan Thomas scything through the defence on a great angle to touch down without a hand being laid on him. 14-8. H.T. On the restart a high kick was superbly caught in his own half by Charlie Locke, who after a determined mazy run for the opposing line was stopped just short. It deserved 5 points but was denied by stubborn defence. Cowbridge had been under severe pressure at scrum, but this was to change with the introduction of Lewys Robbins at prop. Suddenly at this facet of the game, Llanishen started going backwards. A speculative kick up field was caught and finished off by Evan Thomas converted by Rhyddian. 14-15. With 5 minutes to go the Ref penalised Cowbridge for a technical infringement. Kicked by Llanishen full back 17-15. Injury time approaching Cowbridge thought they had won it when after continual pressure on the Llanishen line was finished off with a successful drop goal by Rhyddian for 17-18. However the referee was to have the final say awarding a penalty ( nobody knew what the offence was) and it was kicked by the home full back for a final score of 20-18. Contentment somehow had to be searched for by securing a losing bonus point on a day Cowbridge deserved to win. “ When everything seems to be going against you, remember the airplane takes off against the wind not with it”. RPK.
