Llantwit Fardre v Cowbridge Sat Sept 2nd. On a warm afternoon the game started at a frantic pace with LF scoring an unconverted try after just 2 minutes. This was closely followed by an equalising 5 pointer by Cowbridge following an Angus James charge down. LF replied with a 3/4 length of the field score , shortly matched in the 28th minute by a lovely handling movement by Cowbridge. Scrum half and captain Adam Dix finished it off converted by outside half Rhyddian Morris to take the Bridge into the lead for the first time at 10-12. LF came back again with a forward surge touchdown for 15-12. Refusing to lie down, Cowbridge hit back just before half-time when Morris kicked through a ball that was collected by Evan Thomas full back for a clear run in. The extra 2 points were added to make Half Time LF 15 Cowbridge 19. A proud moment in the 2nd half for Team manager Gerwyn Jones when son Ben came on to join younger brother James. First time they’d played on the same team in a meaningful game. Indefatigable Cowbridge came again and James Jones himself crossed the line next after some superb handling. Scoreboard kept ticking over as both teams played some lovely stuff. Craig Boxall and George Thomas although being up against bigger men were in the thick of everything. Special mention must be made of Owen John ( son of Cowbridge legend Pete) , who straight out of youth rugby didn’t take a backward step playing in that dark and murky place called the second row. A really good advert for local rugby the game finished L.Fardre 27 Cowbridge 36. Adam Dix marginally in front of Rhyddian Morris for Man of the Match. We’ll done boys- It was a Football League manager who once said “ I’m looking for men who have an infinite capacity to not know what can’t be done”.
