Back to winning ways against Llanishen RFC

Impressive Cowbridge Bonus Point Victory

Cowbridge travelled to Llanishen RFC last Saturday looking to halt a three match losing streak. The corresponding home match in September was a close affair and Cowbridge soon displayed their intentions with some thrilling running from the kick off and after just five minutes some great passing along the threequarters released Alex Guard to sprint 22 metres for a fine try, with centre Tom Hannah adding the extras.Cowbride were soon back on the attack as props Craig Boxall and Wayne Fooks drove up the middle for flanker Richie Howson continue the move which broke down just inside the 22.Llanishen slowly got into the game but a long clearance by Guard gave Cowbridge the chance to attack the lineout and the ever impressive Tom Higgins stole possession and crashed over the line followed by a second conversion from the reliable boot of Tom Hannah after 15 minutes.Unfortunately a Cowbridge yellow card allowed Llanishen back into the game and from a lineout crossed for a converted try.Cowbridge had several scoring opportunities in the rest of the half but were denied by small mistakes. However, the scrum was firing on all cylinders which augured well for the second half.

Half Time Llanishen 7 Cowbridge 14

Cowbridge started the second half as they did the first.Llanishen failed clear from the kick off and scrum half Hywel Williams sparked some great interpassing amongst backs and forwards for captain Ross Gibbon to score under the post, giving Hannah the simplest of conversions.Cowbridge were now well on top with the back row Ellis Reed,Jack Anderson and Richie Howson along with second rows Ross Gibbon and Ben Cording rampaging around the field and a lovely inside pass from Howson to Hannah then released flying wing Rhydian Williams to sprint down the try-line,step inside his opposite number for the bonus point try, with Hannah again converting.Cowbridge received a second yellow card, but this time Llanishen were unable to capitalise as ferocious tackling particularly from Andreson and Boxall kept them at bay and Cowbridge extended their lead with a penalty from Alex Guard.A few minutes later No 10 Gareth Williams-Davies and centre Tom James, who had both been influential throughout the game, combined to release Will Williams who sprinted over from 20 metres with Hannah again converting. And that was it.

Final Score Llanishen 7 Cowbridge 38

A great attacking and defensive display from the boys just when they needed to get the season back on track.Next game is at home this Saturday against Taffs Well followed by Abercynon away on 11th January then Gilfach Goch home on 18th January
