Disappointment as Cowbridge Match Postponed

Disappointment as Cowbridge Match Postponed

There was disappointment last Saturday for Cowbridge as Wattstown, for the second Saturday running, were unable to raise a team.Looking to extend their lead at the top of the table and despite offering to assist Wattstown in raising a team the visitors withdrew a couple of hours before kick-off.The plus side was that there was a large crowd at the Athletic Field to watch the youth play an exciting match against a big Mountain Ash side.the visitors opened the scoring in the first ten minutes with an unconverted try but it was Cowbridge who took the lead after thirty minutes with a scintillating converted try only for Mountain Ash to hit back with their own converted try five minutes before half time.
The second half very much mirrored the first half with Cowbridge running the ball from their own 22 whenever possible and the big visitors pack taking route one up the middle of the pitch.Cowbridge's adventure soon paid off as they drew level with a try after ten minutes, but it was Mountain Ash who claimed victory with a third try and a penalty at the death.
Final score Cowbridge Youth 12 Mountain Ash Youth 17
The next scheduled Youth fixture is at home against St.Peters on 13th January
The next game for the 1sts is against Llantwit Major on 30th December. What a way to the end the year.Having won 23-17 in an epic match at home Cowbridge will be hoping to emulate last seasons double, whilst Lllantwit, with two games in hand, will be looking to reduce the points deficit.Again Llantwit will be hosting a sausage and mash lunch which many of the Cowbridge faithful are very much looking forward to,followed by what I'm sure will be another enthralling encounter.Good luck to both teams.
The first game of the New Year is away against 2nd placed Tylorstown followed by Hirwaun at home on 13th January.
Finally this Thursday will see the annual (well,it would be wouldn't it) Chairman's mince pie evening (Griffo will be busily baking for the next few days) at the Clubhouse followed by a festive Quiz. The Club will be open at 19.30 and all are welcome for what is always an enjoyable occasion.
