BP Secured against Pentyrch

Before the last game of the season against Clwb Rygbi,Cowbridge took on Pentyrch last Wednesday on a lovely evening at the Athletic Ground.A victory would leave us with a win on Saturday to confirm promotion to Division 2 East Central.Following an ominous start as the large visitors pack drove Cowbridge back in the first scrum, it wasn't long before the boys secured possession mid-field and a superb break by centre Ash Thomas released scrum half Hywel Williams who burst through the defence to touch down under the posts, with Sam Richards adding the conversion.A couple of powerful Pentyrch scrums put Cowbridge under pressure resulting in a converted penalty. From the kick off Pentyrch cleared to the halfway and from the lineout Hywel Williams broke away, offloaded to centre Sam Stephens who released supporting flanker James Holder to sprint over the line.Cowbridge were now well on top with flying wings Rhydian Williams and Adam Dix both denied until Ryan Hall crashed through the defence, offloading to Dix who was not denied this time.Five minutes later Dix was on the scoreboard with a superb try following lovely breaks by No.10 Tom James and Ash Thomas.Richards added the extras. Then on the stroke of half time following a long kick to touch by fullback Josh Thomas, captain Ross Gibbon took a fine lineout and the pack drove over the line with the outstanding Craig Boxall touching down with another Richards conversion.

Half time Cowbridge 31 Pentyrch 3.

The visitors were first on the scoreboard following some loose passing by Cowbridge resulting in a breakaway converted try. After 12 minutes Pentyrch received their second yellow card and minutes later Boxall spun out of a tackle to claim his second try for Josh Thomas to convert.Next on the scoreboard was captain Gibbon as Dix fielded a loose kick, spinning out to Ash Thomas who transferred to Gibbon to sprint over for Cowbridge's seventh try, converted by Thomas. To their credit Pentyrch did not give up an attempted to run the ball to the bitter end but the Cowbridge defence was superb with some bone-jarring tackles from Dan Holder,Craig Boxall and Dai Popham, keeping the visitors on the 22 until the final whistle.

Final Score Cowbridge 45 Pentyrch 10

Another convincing victory for Cowbridge who must be one of the fittest teams in the league, playing with the same intensity at the ended as at the start
