Fine margins as first defeated at Llantwitt

Last Saturday's much anticipated match with Llantwit started with a very enjoyable meal of faggots and peas for supporters  and words of welcome from Chairman Rhodri Davies.  Whilst the supporters may have had nerves the player were chomping at the bit.

Considering all the rain the Recreation Ground held up well . With a big crowd Llantwit had the first chance with a penalty on the right within 5 minutes that their outside half put over with ease. The scrum seemed to swing back and  fore as each front row had their moments . Llantwit extended their lead on 16 minutes with another penalty 35 metres out . The sun made a showing but the tackling from both sides continued unabated. Chances were few for both teams but a penalty close to half time from a scrum extended Llantwit's lead at half time to 9-0.

The lead did not seem unassailable given the slope advantage for the visitors and following a kick up field a penalty chance for full back Ben Wright seemed the start of the fight back but to the surprise of many the kick went wide. An attack from a scrum minutes through the hands looked promising . Cowbridge pressure forced a penalty that Wright put over at the mid point and 5 minutes later another penalty brought the score to 9-6.  Cowbridge  made changes and maintained the effort but in reality neither team troubled the try line and  the game ended at 9-6.   A pity that it hadn't ended a draw for all the effort put in but  maybe it was Llantwit's turn.

There was a great spirit after the game and back at the club for a sing song.  Thanks go to all the players who have again  made this a memorable year . To coaches Leigh and Dan and manager Dai Breed  and those behind the scenes. We are top but narrowly , Tylorstown are one point behind with a game in hand. Llantwit are fifth with 2 games in hand

And yes the next game is Saturday  away at Tylorstown.  Llantwit play them the following week .  Support can make all the difference so we would be delighted if you  can travel up the valley to support the boys. On 13th January the 1st XV are home to Hirwaun , the Youth home to St Peters

Congratulations to Rob Price and consortium for a win on their horse Fraser Canyon at  Musselbrough

So a big year with all to play for .
